The Common Assembly is a Los Angeles County nonprofit bringing cultural events to Southern California through music, film, theater, and art. Produced with artists, students, musicians, writers, and creative folks to bring our communities together.
What if an entire neighborhood gathered in one place, enjoying the same event at the same time, feeling and reacting out loud, together? What if those events were outdoors, in city parks, on campus lawns, with bands playing? What if those events were free?
What if events included student filmmakers, local musicians, and local performers sharing stages? What if well-known alumni from the local area came and introduced our shows?
Ideas, ideas, ideas... the life-blood of The Common Assembly is to bring these ideas to life.

Jim has spent his career around live production — booking rooms, staging shows, and figuring out how to get an audience and a crew in the same place on the same night. He started The Common Assembly after realizing how few free cultural events LA County actually offers the people who live here. He leads programming and partnerships.
Shawn comes from community arts and nonprofit operations, with years of experience building programs alongside schools, city departments, and neighborhood organizations. He joined The Common Assembly to turn a good idea into a sustainable producing organization, and oversees operations, budgets, and community partnerships.
Special guests join us some nights — announced close to each show.
